One of the founding principles on which all homeopathy relies is the “law of similar's”. According to this law, any substance which causes specific reactions within a healthy person’s body can also cure diseases which cause similar reactions in an unhealthy person. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann stumbled upon this principle whilst translating medical texts received from William Cullen's Materia Medica and was instantly curios to experiment further... As a result Dr. Samuel Hahnemann ingested the South American cinchona or tree bark; a bark which is used today in the treatment of malaria due to its high quinine properties. Directly after ingestion, he began to experience symptoms much the same as those of malaria; i.e. fever, a throbbing and painful forehead as well as excessive thirst. Based on these findings, he continued his experimentation with various other minerals, herbs and substances whilst keeping records of his findings. It is these finding which form our main knowledge base on Homeopathy as we see it today.
With homeopathy, healing occurs from within the body by stimulating and repairing dampened immune systems to help provide one’s body with the necessary aids it needs to treat itself from within. This is the reason behind homeopathy being safe and side effect free.
The safety behind Homeopathic products can be ascribed to what happens during its production process. When making a homeopathic remedy, a plant material such as the South American cinchona bark is taken in its crude form. This material is then diluted and triturated millions (1,000,000,000,000) of times thereby ensuring only the energies of the ingredients are present in the final solution. It is these energies that when ingested signal the human body to mobilize against a particular condition. This technique is not however synonymous with homeopathy alone as it is also commonly used in the formulation of vaccinations whereby an attenuated piece of the vaccine is given in a small dose to trigger the body to develop antibodies against the attenuated virus.
Safety is also assured to all homeopathic products manufactured in the Unites States of America are regulated by the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act 1938 and as a result are manufactured under strict regulations from the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the Unites States of America (HPUS)
